Ok the deal is going down and I am getting this 85 C-10, now the guy informs me the truck is bagged but sits about a half inch to an inch off of the ground, he says this is due to the control arms hanging too low, so can the truck not drag in the rear because of this? Is this also why people Z these trucks? And what the hell is involved in Z'ing a frame???!!! please help!!! thank guys

So you're telling me out of all the fab shops and custom guys on here, no one can help me?

ur frt x-memeber hang lower than the frame thats why they z them because if u z it and modify the mounts u can lay rocker without a b/d
InternationalDave   +1y
what all is involved in z'ing a frame?

ok i z'd the frame of my 72. and basically all u are going to do is cut the front frame off after that front crossmember and raise it up about 1 to 2 inches. sounds easy and if u take ur time and measure u should have no problems but u well have to drop the front frame horns to compensate and prolly have to modify ur tranny crosmember and tranny tunnel. take about 500 measurements then take one more to make sure ur good then use a sawzaw to make the cuts and just jack the front up and weld it back together and brace the hell outa the frame. sounds easy but be sure to get everything back square casue if u mess up the front suspention the truck will never track strait or be able to be aligned ever again. good luck and have fun

or to save all that work fatman fab makes a shorter crossmember that just bolts in i think

no am i doing this to clear the control arms? or the tranny x-member, and if it's for the x-member why couldn;t i just section that instead of z'ing the frame?

now* bump

you can section it alot of people do but i think u can only get about an inch or so from it. z'n it just seemed easy'r for me and it makes it easy'r to lay on bigger wheels. my 72 is lay'n a lil past rocker on 20's with a 45 series tire

got ya, so is this guy talking crazy when he tells me it's the control arms that are keeping it from laying? And can i get the rear to lay before i Z it? or is is possible that he doesn't have drop spindles on it?
