just notch the member, you can reinforce it but don't have to. what'll end up happening if you dont is possible dents in your driveshaft from smacking it, your truck will vibrate like hell anytime your doin over 40 mph.

OK so I am weighing out this decesion
to totaly remove it or just notch it either way somthing needs to be done the gas tank member is already gone thats not a problem I fabbed up a new one when I notched the rear.
Also considering where its at what is the best to cut it with?
Plasma cutter?
Thanks for the info guys

dont mean to steal your thread but do you have ne pics of that gas tank crossmemeber or describe how you made the new one?

I dont have any pics but I can tell ya what I did.
I cut the x-meber in half used only enough of it to hold the muffler up with the stock brackets then re welded it to the frame after I notched it.
On the tank side I cut the x-member out totally and built a L-bracket out of 1in box tubing welded it to the frame and the tank bracket.
I will try to take some pics when I get the bed off to do my 4 link this weekend
