Ok I went to my local yota man the other day looking for a brake t and a couple things and I ask him about picking up an engine so I could build it from scratch and have it painted and chromed in the process.. Well here is what I found. He's got an engine already torn down needs a new valve and rod n stuff which he's gonna throw in. I get a already re-done head new crank, oil pump timing chain all the bolts w/e all i really would need is my efi off my truck after i put it back together.. Price $250... Think i should get the money together to get it?

what kind of engine is it? a 22r, 22re?

TwistedMinis   +1y
I would guess 22RE because hes putting his EFI on it after its built.

lol, i didn't think about that when he said efi. then i would do that for 250. thats a pretty good deal.

yes it is a 22re. your right seth lol I didnt figure i would need to mention after saying that but It always happens.

if he has had all the machine work done to the block then that is a great deal, just get a major overhaul kit the one with new pistons dont reuse the old ones, and you would be ready to go. I have built 3 22re's they are realy easy to do just dont forget the center bolt in the timing cover under the valve cover man that makes a mess . but If the machine work is not done it will cost u another 200.00 to have that done If done right to say. The one thing with the new head is if you put a new cam in it make sure you replace the followers "rockers" they have a real bad prob of ruining a cam if they are not done. Ask and more ? I may know.

Well the block hasnt been redone yet but thats about all thats lacking. I plan on getting all new stuff for it anywayz. I wouldn't build one and put all that work into it for it just to mess up again. The main reson for me wanting this besides to have it ready to be swapped out for show is that my engine is stock w/ 240,000 miles. I know they run forever and ive had them run longer but Im also fixing to have to do a bunch of driving to college so I need something that i can trust for sure.

I would buy it with all that other stuff, even if the block hasnt been touched. There isnt much to do to the block. Have it acid dipped, check for cracks, bore it over, and thats pretty much it. Check the deck to make sure its still straight. Should cost you under $200 for that. Depending on the machine shop. Its usually $10-20 a cylinder to straighten them out as long as they already have the tooling. And these blocks are commonly rebuilt.

Yea im with you on that Seth. The block looked really nice but i'd still have that done.
