Okay, say you have a short bed Toyota and you swap in a Chevy small block. Its carbed, and you had EFI. If you find the same model truck that is a diesel, you can buy it, and swithc Vin tags and all that. Then put yours on the diesel and have it scrapped. They will take your title and dispose of it. Now you have a "diesel" truck with a 350, and you don't have to have it smogged. You don't smog diesels. My friend bought a Volvo wagon with a 350 that was registered that way. No smog, no problems.

Just don't get caught. I'll do it for my truck someday if I can find a Diesel for less than $5000. Everyone wants a lot for them, even if they're buckets.

if i were to get busted,i'd much rather get busted for tampering with smog equipment(engine swap) than a vin swap.
you'll never see your truck again with the vin swap (all you need is the right cop to pull you over).
at least with the engine swap they have to give you a chance to correct it.

ok trsut me on this you can not put any motor inside your truck unless its a newer ford truck motor, it has to be newer and it has to be a truck motor.also if you have aair intake it has to be CARB certfied.... it must have a carb number/sticker on it any aftermarket performace.. my headers my intake are both carb leagal! now if your truck isnt as they want it to be... they will make you goto a state ref and if your missing one bolt, and im not joking they will impound your shit untill its fixed. but yeah on motor swaps the motor must be newer year model motor then what came in it.
