just wondering what kind of prep work i need to do to keep fiberglass from peeling off of the dash in my civic it has the soft vinyl type covering on it any help would be greatly appreciated
depends on how crazy you want to go with it. if you just want to keep the dash looking stock like not molding anything in or adding stuff to the dash then they make a highly flexible primer that works pretty damn good, but either way our gonna have to ruff up whatever your glassing to paint.
well im gonna be shaving the factory gauge location and heat controls and the radio opening but i plan on cutting a new opening out for the radio so do i still need to remove all of the covering and start from the plastic hull
its better to start from the plastic shell. The fiberglass will not stick to that vinyl material. The dash will look bulky as well. I have a 94 accord wagon, I glassed the material and ended up ripping it all off and started over. Check out my profile I have pics of my dash and console. they aren't finished yet so you can see whats going on.
i was kinda wonderin the same thing. mine doesn't have that vinyl on it so would i juss skuff up the plastic and then lay the fiberglass mat or fleece over the dash in the shape i want then put the resin on?
I SANDED THE DASH IN MY 84 C-10 AND USED A FLEXABLE PRIMER AND PAINTED. FOR THE PLASTIC BERZEL AROUND MY GAUGES I USED PLEXIGLASS AND SUPER GLUED IT IN PLACE OF MY A/C CONTROLL AND VENT. NOW THIER IS A GAUGE FOR MY AIR TANK AND SWITCHES THERE.
