that's called a T.V cable, not to be confused with a detent cable.

This will be the best way to set up your TV cable...

check this article. http://www.tciauto.com/instructions/gm_tv_cable_adjust.htm

you'll need to make & modify a bracket to hold the cable housing as well to set up with a carb.

Also, if it's not right you'll be fucked. Either it won't kick down right, or you'll splatter the gears quick...

i got a 700r4 on my 4.3 cause the 5 speed was a pos, so i made a place for it on the tbi you gota get all the right angles right and if its supost to run around a part of a pully like on some cars then its got to be the right size and all that good stuff.

tci, summit and b&m all make what's called a throttle valve correction cable. since 700r4's were originally designed to work on efi vehicles, the swap to a carb throws the tv cable geometry out of line. this correction cable is absolutely neccessary when using a 700r4 with a carb. if you don't, the tranny will not function (shift) correctly and could self destruct in as short as 5 miles. (yes, it's happened before) the correction bracket is specific to either holley or edelbrock carbs and costs between 20 and 35 bucks for the good version. (includes the linkage adapters) from b&m. if it happens that you're tranny doesn't destroy itself without the adapter, it may be close (the tv cable controls the pressure inside the trans causing it to shift and it's kick down at w.o.t.) and function somewhat, but your shift points will be way off, and the overall life of the tranny will be greatly reduced. spend the 30 bucks, get the correction piece, and it will include all the instructions you need. on another note, sometimes, depending on what the tranny came out of (say caprice vs camaro) the tv cable itself may be too short and you will need to purchase a longer one. cottmans transmissions or aamco etc carry the longer tv cable (around 80 bucks) or lokar i believe, makes a full show version of it as well. best of luck, hope this all helps.
