anyone know of some good websites to goto to learn about prerunner trucks and their chassis and suspension? im thinkin about building one (yea i know, no desert in alabama), and want to learn about the parts they use in their front suspensions, like spindles, etc, and what types of coilovers and springs and setups that are used both front and rear....

maybe no desert in alabama, but when you give directions by "look for the first paved road on the right"... you might be far enough out in the middle of nowhere

Prerunners.net
and I think
Prerunners.com

I know .net has a forum and stuff... Also check out Kartek.com... that is where you can buy suspension... I'm sure you want to build it yourself, but you can at least look at pictures... Also, prerunners.net has a huge link section with different companies...

There isn't really any site or book to tell you how to set up an off-road truck.

There are exactly 4872 different ways to build a long, travel front end and only 3 ways to build the rear...No really tho, everybody has there own opinion about how the suspension should be set up.

You can go to my profile and check out the front end I am building on the F-150. Custom spindles and all, but parts alone are in the $10k range. It all depends on what you want to do with the truck...

i can help you with finding the right setup for you... max is the man

if your building a ford.. you pretty much have billions of companys to choose from...heres a list of some good places to checkout

giant motorsports (www.giantmotorsports.com)camburg (www.camburg.com)velocity fab (http://velocityfab.com/)kartek.comcaliforniasupertrucks.comhttp://www.bajaconcepts.com/http://www.donahoeracing.com/http://www.duffcoenterprises.com/ (dufco makes killer toyota 2wd long travel)dixon brothers (http://www.dixonbrosracing.com/main.htm)

if your going to do it yourself... wich really isnt that hard

depending on what size truck you build andhow much travel you want... will determine what components you will need to use

for example...

lets say you decide to build a ford rangerand you want 15-18 inches of travel (wich is a good amount to just go and thrash and jump and not break anything)...then you would need at LEAST a 10" coilover .. and you will need to build an engine cage.. (a brace across the top of your motor by your firewall to support the big shock hoops) you'll also need to extend your a arms a few inches and heim every rod end and get beefy uniballs and you might want to get beefy bars and you WILL need heim steering and either hydralic bumpstops or airbumps

your best bet would be to buy the a arms from one of the big name companies .. and build your own shock hoops and engine cage up front...

example of the heims and uniballs i was talking about

now for the back.. you have alot of options..you can run long travel leaf springs..

(deaver, national, giant motorsports) make the best leaves for long travel.

youll also need new shackles.. camburg has the best shackles for leaves and they arent expensive....

you'll need to cage your bed..

heres a bunch of pics of a giant motorsports 64" leaf spring setup.. you can get like 22" of travel with leave springs and a bedcage with 18" stroke resivoir shocksleaf springs are a great.. for your everyday driver/weekend toy truck.. if you still need more travel... go with a 4 link and coilover with or without an extra shock.. a tripple bypass shock from king fox or sway away would be your best bet

tripple bypass shocks regular body shocks sorry for the long post.. but i think theres enough info here to get you started/wanting to know more...

if you wanna know anythign else IM me and ill tell you everything i know

My friend built this truck for about $10,000 it was bad ass. Not an all out race truck or anything but pretty cool. You should look on DEZERTRANGERS.com.
