Whats up everybody I drive a 91 mazda protege and I just blew out a airbag... For universal strut airbags they cost 200 dollars/some change and I really dont want to buy a new bags I whether pay someone to a custom job on my car so Im wanted to see some picture of car that did custom bag setups on the front... Im wanting to pay someone that knows how to do it SO I can get lower and not worry about blowing another bag... anyhelp would work... Thanks Ronnie Charleston, Sc

Where are you? I can help if you are close, that bag should not have blown unless it was rubbing so you prob just need to make sure it has room for the strut to swing around like they do. I have the universal air bags on my car and am totally stoked with them. If you look at what they are and the amount of work in them I don't really think 200 bucks is all that much.

Ya I had all four of them for about 2 years too... Well I want my car to go lower but the bracket the bag sits on was close to the tire So I redid the brackets and made them closer I notice that everytime I came to a stop and slamed it I could see rubbing then one day SHOWING OFF I slammed it goin about 40mphs and I knew I fucked up ... The front passage has a huge hole and the drive side just has a mean rub... But I cant gettin anylower them...

I had the same problem on my benz with them folding into the tire when laid out, The only thing you can do to get them lower is to do something with the top mount. I actually mounted the bag hard to the strut tower flipped the bag over so the port was on top and moved the bearing to the bottom mount. Because the bearing could sit between the tire and strut I was able to move the lower mound down even more and gain about an extra inch of drop. It works great but i did have to replace the bearings last month after 20k miles with them out in the open like that.

Damn so That really works... I would like you see a picture of that... But my backet is at the lower point now... anylower than the stock rim and tire still will rub the bracket then... This dude I know he told me that someone could take the struts out weld some tubing and use truck bags so I could get LOW and wont worry about anything I can get the rear lower I just want it to be even...

Honestly I think your best bet would be to cut out the tops of the strut towers and build a strut tower bar that is as high as it can be, fab mounts onto it with adjustments for caster and camber maybe even use some aftermarket caster/camber plates. I have done this twice on mac strut cars and it works great.

LOL I will try to find some, I won't be able to get them until tomorrow if I even have any. They would be on the shop computer.

So if I do cut the top mount and raise it up how will it get lower... Matter a fact I really doubt I can go any highter on the top mount if I even did raise it...

because it would allow the bag to come up higher. and you would be suprised at how much higher most strut towers can be raised, the mistake people make when they look at their strut towers to see if they can be raised is they compair the top of the strut towers to the top of the fenders, most hoods bow up alot even in that small space from the fender to the spot the strut is mounted, even if it is only an ince extra drop it would make a massive difference.
