first of all DICK im asking for pictures and advice like things people should have done in the process but realized too late so i dont make the same mistakes. i know it has been posted a million times but nothing has come out of those posts thats informative thats why i posted and to maybe get a thread started so it was a reference to others. next time you decide to post on a thread that doesnt concern you or your 80's model rides do it somewhere else.

Didn't mean to come of as a jerk, this just seems like something you would just go check yourself rather then post up and ask. At least come in with a number and say this is what you got when you measured. Whatever, doesn't really matter. Good luck with your build.

p.s. I like my cars and ya ones in the 80's.

Check out my How-To on bodydropping. It shows good places to cut, and gives tips. It also states one or two things I would have done differently for prep.

How-To: Basic Bodydropping

Thats a super sweet how to seth, but he wants to know about stock floor bd.

I did my mazda sfbd, I laid the frame out on a jig I built and spaced the rails up about a 1/2 inch to make sure the new rails were even with the front crossmember which hangs down about 1/2 inch lower (no ghetto lean this way) I also put pegs up through the centers of the body mounts and cut them off flush. This wa I could get the body mounts exactly in the right place without a bunch of critical measuring.

Here is the real trick though: The factory rails are 5 inches tall and my new rails were 3iinches tall. That would normally work out to a 2 inch body drop (lay pinch, not rocker) but since I had spaced the rail UP a 1/2 inch from the start, I was able to drop the body mount 2.5 inches (measured from those pegs that were cut off flush, now they stuck up through the new mounts 2.5 inches) You have to remember to drop the core support mounts 2.5 inches also. I reused the factory transmission crossmember and built new center and carrier bearing crossmembers, notching them for the exhaust.

Pics in my profile. I rebuilt the rear clip too, but if you were inclined you could just rebuild the center section, wiggity wayner did that and it worked out nice. I will never ever do another traditional bodydrop. You really feel like you are sitting on the ground with a sfbd.

Russ and Corey: You guys rock and thanks for the advice and pics also, did you guys have to raise the tranny hump or did everything fit?

just my opinion but if you just go to the pinch id do a trad drop. we did one on a mazda in a week last month. it was a bit under 2inches and super easy. hell i was able to get most the firewall welded backtogther without filler panels.

on a sidenote i ordered a bag full of mazda bedbolts casue we over bodydropped it and spaced it back up.... anyone need some? they're like 3-3.5 inches long and hard to get ahold of!

oh yeah i hate people who measure their bodydrops too....hahahha

actually as someone who has had both, I will never traditional a mazda ever again, sfbd is just so much better and there is a lot of room in the cab when done.

haha and with a name like fiveinchbodydrop I see why you hate people who measure.

LYNFRM: I did NOT have to raise the tranny tunnel BUT it may be a tight squeeze to get the tranny out if I ever have to work on it.

I'd do a SFBD any day over a traditional.

Although i had to do both to my truck... haha.

If I had the chance to do it again I would go stock floor. When I bodydropped my truck I wasnt comfortable with the frame work, now I wish I had.
