y u can narrow your ranger rear end 2 in for CHEEP. just cut 2 inches out of the LONG tube, and get another axle out of the drivers side for the pass side(long side)

other then that you will have to get new axles. also the older ranger rear ends are narrow but not by much, maybe an inch at the most. they also dont have the REAR abs sensor and the big flange for the drive shaft as all the gen I rangers had 7.5s... 90/91ish up 7.5s have a same flange as the 8.8, drive shaft bolt patternt wise...

If you shortened it the cheap way, wouldn't it then center your axle though?

And I think the older rear ends are close to exactly one inch shorter, than the newer ones. According to dantheman, on RPS.

btw, Richard, why do you want to shorten it? didn't you just get new wheels that tuck?

it would center the axle yes. 1 in sounds about right, ben a minute since ive measure one, only thing is the speedo/abs not working correctly since the rear sensor would be gone. but if u wanted to do one anyways, all you would need to do is swap the flange off your 7.5 to the older gen I. fyi, the 91ish up ones are the same one that is in your truck, but could be the same.

No new wheels just yet. The plan right now is to pick up an Explorer rear with disc brakes. Its .75" wider on each side. But it will need to come in more then that cause I am tired of the wheels being so close to the bedsides.

My wheels don't even have 1/4" of clearance. Was just gonna buy new wheels but they dont make any other offsets . I only need about an inch or so on each side but I want the speedo to work.

a 2 in narrow sounds good

James, have you actually done that method that you mentioned?

Unless you were doing an entirely new frame, or going to an s10 front clip I don't think it would work. You would have to find a way to center the tranny
