those rails from summit are only .083 wall, which is pretty thin. you can buy mandrel bent rails from art morrison or from autoweld. the rails from autoweld/art morrison are .120 wall.

art morrison stuff is great for showing you just how cool your truck project could be if only you were slanging rock or were a nuclear engineer or knew how to rap like Tupac.

I mean seriously, 500 bucks for 2x3x1/8th wall pipe with a standard bend in it? I have seen gentler anal rapings on pinappleinsertions.com .

There's a lot of high HP cars out there running those thin rails.

thats what im running on my truck.

My buddy has a 500hp sonoma that uses the same rails and he's had them for a few years now and never had an issue.

really? thats a really good idea corey, I am doing my IRS and want to change the back half, I think I will order some up too. My friend just got some from summit, I havent seen them yet but he swears they are nice.

I just picked up a project S10 too, and was looking for a way to sfbd it 3 inches and still keep the bed space, I have acess to an extra IRS so I think you just made up my mind on both.

I agree wall thickness is sometimes overstated, that by having box tubing makes a stronger frame. I'd be willing to bet the .08 wall stuff is high tensile strength and not mild steel anyway.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your comments corey. Ima gounna tryit ooooouuuuut.

Yes sir... my friend with the sonoma had an extra pair of the rails from summit kicking around when i started to build my frame... so I figured i'd use them, it was something different and not to common to see.

I figured if the high horsepower guys were running those rails without problem i wouldn't have a problem either. Plus I figure i've got quite a bit of support tieing them together that i'd never have an issue.

im building an s10 with the 3x2 rails from autoweld.... anyone that sells 3x2 mandrel bent rails strongly recommend that you run a rollcage or at least a roll bar with it. there is a bit of flex... the 4x2 rails are alot stronger. im incorporating a good bit of round tubing, and possibly even a backbone for the frame that cages in the driveline. i really wouldnt recommend using the real thin stuff for bulding a basic ladder frame like most do.

running 4x2 mandrel rails bent to specs on the c10.. got them from autoweld, perfect bends and each rail was exact to my specs.
