Matt- I love the diagram.
Matt is right. The idea of just running parallel uppers and lower doesn't hurt anything really, but if you are running different length bars, the diagram above shows the changes that can happen.
I do everything I can to keep the instant center in front of the truck (somewhere around the grille works great,) it helps to keep the vehicle more "friendly." It sounds to me that you should set up the suspension at half trave like James originally said. By doing so it keeps the geometric changes to a minimum as well as roll steer in check. You don't really need to understand much of this to build a successful 4-link, but it is more important to build it at half travel. Also keeping the travel down to a minimum (12" or so) will help to keep thing from moving too much.
