hello everyone, im just looking for some input to a qustion i have on a cantilever design.

i asked in a different thread, but i never really got any solid answers.

My question is this:

When designing a cantilever suspension, is it possible, and safe and all to make the part of the system that mounts to the frame ware the central pivot is, is it ok to make that part pivot?

idk if thats a clear question or not. so i drew a quick picture up. What i want to know, is, the bottom most mounting location, that is usually on the frame someware, and fixed to the vehicle and solid.....is that able to be a pivoting mount instead like the rest of the pieces in the design

The main reason i ask is because, if it is ok to make that mounting point pivotable, it would help greatly in my design i have going for my cantilever setup....

an example of want to know is, in the thread of a vehicle getting built by twist of cain, in his cantilever design, the bottom most mount pivots with the sustem....but someone in the thread said that it was wrong and a no-no, but never really stated why....

well i dont see how it would work not bein hard mounted, it would just rock back n forth.

it seems like the lift would be less than if u had a fixed mounting point. also the bag seems like it would not hold up well like it is

as long as you have something to keep the axle centered in the frame from side to side and front to back.

That will not work....the center bar will move and could possibly hit the airbag....and I do believe taht the suspension pictured now has a solid center pivot, I believe I read that on another thread on here.

well, im not using a bag for the lift so rubbing on the bag wont be an issue, and the amount of lift wont be a problem in this situation.

I deffinentally see what you mean by the top part of the middle link will just continue to pull inward with more force upward....that could be an issue..

How it works in that picture of jeffs is why i think it will be fine.

with the bottom able to pivot, it will not just rock back and forth, the upward pressure would lock it in a semi-vertical state, and depending on the ARC of the suspension would only change at complete lift and complete drop.

idk, i like how jeff did that, I will solve alot of binding issues with my upsidedown air/hydro cantilever setup.

i want to make this clear. I in nooo way am calling out the work in "Project Isabella" , im just curious in the working of that design. I think the work in that build is great, and that suspension design It catchs my imagination.
