custom door panels

i want to make some door panels from scratch and i thought of useing MDF for the structure and fiberglass over it but when i got it all cut it it wont sit flat to the door so i scratched that idea. has n e one ever made there own door panels and if someone has can someone give me some advice and some pics maybe?? thanks

cut holes out wherever it hits something on the door, patch that with fiberglass, and water proof the backside once it sits flush. or figure out whats hitting, make a pattern with paper, trace it on the wood and router out deep enough to clear.

How do you get the panel to stay on the door?

you can cut keyholes for the stock clips to slide into.
