I have thought about doing a sentra k member in the back of my nissan with a bluebird sr20 swap.. using that k member, i'd have fwd in the bed but i'd be using the strut style spindles and either making a arms or making the spindles work, as is.

its been a thought of mine for a month or so now.

you could do it.. just build some shock towers like the front of a car, in the rear of the truck.. go from there.. your only problem is, you will have to get a fwd k member and fwd motor for the bed.. b/c i dont know of a RWD vehicle with mcpharson strut setup in the rear, to use the rear end/spindles from (remember, the drive axles connect through the spindles)

im not talking about doing it in the rear.....im talking about up front.

I believe while it would be a LOT more work than finding a front engine rwd car, the porsches DO use the strut setup up front....but the steering is very wierd being its a rear/mid engine car.

i believe i saw some sort of mercedes that is RWD using a strut suspension, but i may be wrong. just a though I had, could be cool if pulled off and still safe.

As lon as the tops of the struts were braced good it would be safe. Like have the tops tie into the firewall and brace that in the frame through a roll cage or other means.

It is alot different in a unibody car. First off......like mentioned above, you almost absolutely need the bottom member to accomodate the right style lower arms and spindles. Then there is the spindles issue....remember a mac. strut turns with the wheel, so the bottom of the strut HAS TO mount on the spindle. Therefore you would have to use a different spindle for a frontwheel drive car. Which in turn would change the bolt pattern.......etc,etc,etc

All that I understand. I don't see needing a FWD car because I THINK I saw where a certain series mercedes used them but was RWD. I may be wrong as I said. I am still looking into it. I can't find it right now.

i believe the 90s lexus sc300/400 are rwd and use struts both front and rear.

im not a susp expert, but as far as goemetry goes. the struts should not be mounted vertical, but mounted at an angle that matches the inward arc/motion of the lower a-arm. (at least thats how my truck has no camber)
