If you really want to get into this and start painting a lot then I would say buy a better gun. I know they are expensive but its worth it. Another thing for when you go to redo it just make sure to keep it wet when you spray.

i like the color also and it's a nice truck. but definately need to keep your gun clean. It takes me at least 15-20 mins just breaking my gun down and cleaning it everytime I use it.

Looks good for a first try. I teach an Autobody Class at the local community college where I live. I have seen alot worse for first timers. Key is definately prep. Sounds like you have this concept grasped already. 80-90% of a good paintjob is due to the prep work. As everyone has said, if you want to do this for a living I'd invest in a good gun and practice. I have two separate guns that I use for spraying base and clear, one for each. They both cost me around a grand together. You will get what you pay for. If you are changing colors completely try sealing prior to spraying base. The sealer will not only give the base a good material to bite/etch into but it will also make the project one solid color. DuPont makes a sealer they call value shade. You can get this sealer in various shades of gray from light to dark to help w/coverage when spraying different colors. Pay attention to your gun speed, distance (6-10 inches from project), keep the gun perpendicular to the panel you are spraying at all times, and pay attention to your overlap. Follow your wet line. 50-75% overlap depending on what you are spraying. Keep your gun clean and the vent on top of the cap open. Set your gun up to proper atomization and spray pattern. Always test on a piece of paper taped to the booth prior to using it on the project. And just remember practice makes perfect. Sorry for the lengthy response, but I hope this helps some.

Joel, save your posts you don't have to post back but just a few tips. Never shoot your base over 2 different colored primers. You will always end up with 2 different colors of base after it is applied. Anytime you have something that is prept and you are ready to apply your base color, use a sealer over the entire vehicle right before you apply your base. The sealer will ensure that your base will have uniform color over the entire vehicle and will not allow bleed through into your primer. All paint manufacturers supply a color hue number that should be applied before the base to achieve the same color as the color chip you see in the book. The number will be 1 through 7. Your paint supplier can supply you with the correct color for the base color you are using, it will be on the label on the can. After you have applied the recomended coats of base, Take a light and go around the entire vehicle and make sure you have uniform color through out. If you don't, it will show up. You did a good job for your first paint job. I shot my first truck when I was 16 and I'm 45 now. It wasn't my best paint job but you will learn more and more with every job you do. I do believe that with your skills you show here and your desire to paint does warrent you upgrading your gun. You don't have to have a $500 gun when starting out, but you do get what you pay for with a gun too. The most important thing is setting up your guns spray pattern. It sucks you have it un-masked already, if it was me, I would shoot a sealer over what you have and then re-apply your base. Nice truck and Keep up the good work!
