mig welding vs. stick welding

hy guys have a question i am about to bag the ass end of my dually and was wondering which would be best. on welding in my notch i usually use a mig welder but the place i am going to be working on my truck may not have access to a mig welder but they do have a stick welder. I was wondering if any of yall have welded your notches in with a stick welder and how the outcome of it was, i guess it could be personal preference for i have never stick welded before on a frame just various small metal pieces for work. so i guess my question is would it be ok using a stick welder on my notch if i cant get a mig welder?

why shouldnt you? it doesnt really make any difference mig welding is just easier to use

theres no reason why you cant we use a stick welder to wrap frames for lowriders all the time your possiblities are endless with a stick

i am not saying that a stick is not as good as a mig just wondering if it would be ok since i prolly wont have access to a mig... when welding to the frame what stick should i use a 7018? or a 6013

ok just talked to my grandfather who was a welder for 30 plus years and he said i could do it no problem and should use 1/8 or 3/32 low hydrogen 7018 or 8018 rods....

i could be wrong but i was told that stick is stronger.

7018 is harder to use, the 6010 is milder and easier to weld with..... i'd practice a bunch, stick is alot harder to get good with than mig..... make sure to bring the chipping hammer, wire brush, and safety glasses!! i dont know why your grandpa thinks that you might have 70-80 thousand psi in a joint on a frame notch......

yeah stick welding will work fine...stick is what they do most of in industrial work like building plants and shit..almost all the structural welding is done with stick

stick will work just fine, use a 3/32 7018, a 1/8 will be to much metal
