I work in a bodyshop and I just wiped mine down with a good cleaner. Then sprayed them with some plastic adhesion promoter that comes in an aerosol can.

does it work as a filler primer for them?

no thats the most half ass way you can do it. if its new plastic that hasnt had paint on em yet 600 grit em or use a red scotchbrite pad. then do your adhesion promoter then paint. you will not need a filler primer unless there is sanding scratches you want to fill in. dont ever just not sand before paint. unless you want to do it again.

well on my s-10 handles i know where you grab at the lower part of it that you see is textured so i didnt know.

oh yea put you a couple fat coats of filler primer on there. i also have a s-10 and i did em a whyle back. those are actually metal on the s-10. if it is metal sand it with some 320 grit to remove the texture then with the filler primer. also cleen em real good with wax and grease remover before you paint.

i was gonna say i couldnt remember it has been 2 years since i have had mine shave and someone actually asked me about trying to get the texture out of them and i really didnt know what to say.

Your right choppin, I forgot to say that I scotch brited them. When I did the mirrors and handles on my 2500 I scotch brited them, then cleaned them, then sprayed them with plastic adhesion promoter. I then based and cleared them like you normally would. I went back the next day and wet sanded them with 800 grit then based and cleared them again and that took the texture out completely even on my mirrors which had heavy texture. I haven't had any problems yet even on my mirrors which get hammered with rocks and bugs.

ok, so i need to clean them, sand them, apply the plastic adhesion promoter, use filler primer (since they are textured?), then paint and clear. is that right?

if you have BARE plastic...and its smooth..you DONT want to sand it unless your up for a couple sessions of priming and sanding out you scratch marks you made..bare plastic does not need to be sanded for paint to stick to it, it needs to be CLEAN and free of mold release agents...but if its textured..and you want it smooth..yeah then sand it and prime it as necessary to get it smooth
