Hey man,
I race a dirt late model in kentucky. As far as building a car you need a frame jig and tubing bender to start. Dirt Late Models are very complex and you might be better to buy a car. Go to www.teamgrt.com they build cars and that is what my chassis is. The owner of grt also has two books on dirt late model chassis setup and fabrication hope this helps.

You might think about getting into what they call the crate late models. Save you alot of money. Im big into dirt racing and this class just started this year and they have HUGE turnouts everywhere. Its the Crate American Racing Series or simply C.A.R.S. Same chassis and setup, but you run a cheaper crate motor. Its the 602 g.m. and you cant tear into them. Makes the class very competitive.

thanks for the info this CARS series sounds like what i'm looking for. It makes it more of a drivers race instead of a vehicles race.

oh yeah also forgot. I was just reading the rules about the CARS series, it sounds awesome and is close enough to my area that I can actually travel to these places on the weekends, minus the weekends i have drill. What should i buy first, frame, body or what?

Get a rolling chassis first. There are nothing to the bodies. All they are is sheetmetal. The only piece to really "buy" is the nose. Make your own body. Motor and tranny last because they are the easiest in this class because they are assembled and ready. You can run a burt transmission. I think all rules apply for this class as late model...just crate motor. But the motor for them packs a TON of power. There are some guy from fown around paducah that run at Soggy Bottom Speedway in Morgantown Ky. Great track, and always a huge turnout of cars. Usually 20+ crate lates there.
