You can get a used rolling chassis for between $3500.00 to $5500.00 thats good equipment that is ready to go usually minus motor and transmission. You have a choice of two motors for the crate series a 602 or 604. 602 motor cost around $2900.00 without ignition system or fuel delivery system. They make 350 horsepower and are steel heads. The 604 cost around $5100.00 without ignition system or fuel system. They are 400 horsepower and have aluminum heads. In the cars series you weigh 2250 for 602 motor and 2400 for 604 motor. Then two most popular transmission are the Bert Transmission and the Brinn transmission bascially the same transmission. All interanl clutch system direct drive high grear with low gear and reverse. Basic chassis manufactures are CJ Rayburn,Warrior, Mastersbilts,GRT RACE CARS,SWARTZ,ROCKET, BARRY WRIGHT. go to www.racingjunk.com or www.4m.net they have classified listings of used cars and motors. If you need any help email at dcracer_35@hotmail.com if you every come to paducah international raceway give me a hollar I'm there every weekend. Good Luck Dusty Chandler 5D crate late model.

I was just trying to keep it simple for him. He is just starting out. Ive never been a big fan of P.I.R. Soggy bottom has better racing and more turnout I think...better atmosphere.

I was just trying to give him good solid information from a driver. PIR has at least 10 more cars nightly than soggy bottom. I been to both. Soggy Bottom has a descent racing surface, but I don't care to much for the grandstand facilities.

Why start in late model thats kinda risky if you don't know if youre gonna like it try out the b mods first. I don't know if you have that around KY but here in MO we have the b mods and you just use a stock frame roof and fab the rest a little cheaper and hella fun.

thanks for all the tips, but i figure that if i go late model and get tired of driving, i'd just let me brother drive it while i'm gone to afghanistan and split the winnings (if any) with him.

The crate classes they have now are definately the way to go instead of starting is streetstocks etc... u get a feel for how a latemodel works just on a much less horsepower level but the learning curve isnt nearly as bad once u get into a super latemodel. We sold our Warrior in 02 and back then there wasnt a crate class but we ran a tire rule which evened the competition as well made it more of a setup/driver race...
