If I want to run a 32 inch tire (22's with meat on them) and to lay frame in the FRONT I need to drop 15 inches, and the frame in the BACK (if notched to clear up to the top of the stock rail, will clear 11.5 inches. So, if I need a 15 inch or so drop, would I only need a 3.5 or so inch notch? Of course needing a little room so I don't lay out and smack the rail, I could call it 5. Thats 1.5 inches of room. Does that SOUND right? Am I measuring right? I will probably build it a little big for safety, but do I have the right idea?

oh and Cris I know this would be a great thread for the "Ask Max" forum!

take half of your tire diameter plus your axle housing width divided by 2.

so.. lets say your axle housing is 3".. 16+3=19/2=9.5" opening.

i saw that on max's post, but that doesn't really make any sense to me.

The way I measure gets the same 9.5 total....but it's not "from the ground" like I believe max's post says...

i believe that is to give you the total inside height of the notch from the bottom of the frame rail.. but i could be wrong

The measurement is from the bottom of the frame that will lay...which will be the same as from the ground if you do the notch right. haha.

right.....but the only part of my frame that will lay is way up front....which i dont see how measuring up front is going to give me an answer for the back....

Everyone might not do this, but here is what I do. Level the truck off on flat ground. Jack the axle until it hits the stock frame then determine how much more you need to go. If you say the frame isnt flat under the back could you measure off of the rocker to the ground? That should be level. You can usually go about a half inch short due to tire squish but that is getting really critical and doesnt allow for wheel and tire upsizing later. Good luck.

well, right now like i said the rocker is 14.5-15 inches off the ground. the truck is level. so if i cut out the frame section the axle would meet, except the top edge, it would clear enough for like 11.5 inches. so that would leave another 3.5 to be needed. so the bottom of my notch would need to be 3.5 inches higher than the stock rail.

That's pretty much the same as your saying right?

where is max when ya need him?? lol. im thinking that measurement is off the bottom of the frame over the axle on center to the bottom on the notch but like i said earlier i could be way wrong
