I also read that heims have to be used at the axle, because of the force applied? And would it be safe to build a link bar like you did on Mikes Tacoma, with the heim in a bung welded to the angle bar? Or would a straight bar be best with the heim offset, or with angled tabs?

The more that the roll-center is "fixed" to the vehicle, the less twitchy it will feel. So that would apply to the upper bars as well. It is going a little overboard on a mini to concern yourself with these issues, but it's good to know...

As for heims being required, I've never heard that, but most racecars will run heims because they don't flex, they make the vehicle more predictable. And mounting the heim, that's up to your physical confines...

Wow i'm not a fabricator by any stretch of the imagination. But just reading the questions and answers on this thing i learned more then like 3 weeks in high school!

Sorry free bump for the thread. It's just interesting the things you learn worken and studying. I'm b/d'ing my truck right now and i'm learning alot. Thinking of redoen the back suspension while it's apart so this thread as well as some others are really helpfull! Thanks guys!

Satchell Links...

Don't mean to steal your thread Seth, I do have a question for Max though. This might be a dumb question that I probably know the answer for anyway but I wanted to know if I had a frame built by someone, could you design and build the suspension for me?

Thanks Max, I appreciate the info. One of these days I'd like to build a minitruck that really handles and drives well.

Also on another site I read on the satchell link the upper bars should be parallel with the ground, and the lowers angle up. Is this correct? Would you set it up like that at half travel? Or would you do it like you have advised for standard 4-links?

That is probably a good starting point... The placement of your instant center, at ride height, has strong bearing on the amount of anti-squat and roll-steer characteristics that your system will have. This is something that you need to decide, based on what you want the vehicle to excell at. Keep in mind that most track cars won't typically have near as much travel as you will out of a simple air bag system.

Are you asking if you could bring me the truck and I will build it? or do you want me to draw up some designs so that your guy can build what I draw?
