Be extremely thorough when you clean it of course, but any clear coat will work. Just make sure your booth is really clean too beccause there's a higher chance for solvent pops and fish eyes.

99 percent of clearing bare metal results in delaminating. You CAN use a aluminized paint and swirl it with scorth bright for the baremetal look how ever.

you can prep it any way you want because no matter what you do...its going to peal. but it will look cool until then.

Jeff is right, there is no way that paint will stick to bare metal.... you can have the hood powdercoated with clear powdercoat and it will last longer than paint.... Or get a hood repro company to stamp you one out of stainless instead of mild steel.

That is not nesseceraly true. They make a clear sealer that will stick to polished aluminum. Its made for boats. They spray it on all the aluminum and chrome then spray clear over it. But I did not get the name of the stuff or who makes it. I saw it on some car show on Speed. I paint Peterbilts for a living so Ive been hounding my Dupont rep to look for that stuff for me. I need to ask the PPG rep too.

bull dog adhesion promoter over your grinded neato pattern works, i have been doing that for a while now, i do recomend that you bull dog then do a couple coats of base clear and lightly sand that without going through to the bare metal then candy coat it and clear it then lay your graphics. i have saw this work and believe in it. Only thing im unsure about it extreme cold like up here in minnesota. but summer time you wont have a problem.

It might work for a while, but in time it will yellow or delaminate, do a clear powdercaot, scuff that then kandy it.

we built a store in our local mall and the entire storefront is composed of grinded mild steel with a clearcoat, and most racks and things inside it are steel with grinded designs with a clearcoat... been great for 14 months now! i think it has to do with the sun mainly...
