I'm looking to pick up a couple of decent cheaper paint guns. I've been looking at the DeVilbiss guns because I know they are a decent gun and they have some good prices on there lower end models.

I'm looking for some input on there StartingLine and FinishLIne guns. If one series is better than the other, experience, opinions, etc.

I would like to get a primer gun and a base/clear gun. I have limited painting experience with siphon guns but that is about it. I plan on getting some practice on my fiberglass projects, interior pieces, small panels.

I'm also open to suggestions on other brands. I would like to stay in the $150-200 range.

between the two i'd go with the finishline series. DeVilbiss guns are good guns to start out with and learn your own technique. My bro is a painter by trade and thats what he started with then went on to own several SATA guns and now he uses 2 guns by a company called AccuSpray for his expensive jobs

I've had bad experiences with devilbiss guns including the finishline series. If it were me, I'd save up for an Iwata. I've sprayed satas as well and don't really care for them. I prefer an Iwata hands down. But then again, that's just me. Good luck with whatever you choose my friend

sata is the best gun hands down. if your wanting a good cheap primer/base gun, i bought a mountain HVLP gun with a 1.3 tip and it does really well. plus if it fucks up, im only out 100 bux. ive sprayed base and sealer with it, it does just as awesome w/ primer.

i ordered some guns thro my school right be fore i graduated. I got an Iwata 400, 100 side mount, and a Leonardo for a primer. I love Iwatas, and those leonardos are cheap as hell, like $75, but the spray pretty damn nice. You sand primer anyways, so if you have to try and save money, do it there

Here is my thing. I am all about doing the work myself, but there are some things that not everyone can do. I feel paint/bodywork is one of those. It's an easy way to make good work look like crap.

I have no problem spending the extra money on a good gun. I just don't want to dump $400-500 on a gun and not be able to use it properly. If that is the case, I would rather spend the money on a roll, break, or something else i don't have. Besides I don't exactly have a great place to paint.

I want to practice my bodywork and paint skills and see where it goes.

get the cheap guns then, it wont hurt anything.

Do not go with DeVilbiss, I used them when I was a painter, it's what the company supplied from sherwin williams and the guns suck ass literally. I mean, I spent 100 bucks on a blue point gravity feed that hasn't failed me yet a year later with alot of jobs under it's belt and the Devilbiss I had sent out once every couple of weeks to get rebuilt.

I have a Devilbiss and like it but i plan on moving it to primer life soon. Sata makes a good gun but is quickly being surpassed by Iwata, especially for the price. Deveilbiss guns were good for the older laquers and stuff but havent really moved with the times.
