I'm not a welder or even touched one. But I'm just curious, Why is flux core welding bad for body work?

it burns hotter then gas, but its dirty.. if you dont get all of the coating out of the weld, it will rust and stay contaminated. plus its really splattery.. i dont know why ppl say you cant weld good with flux.. this pic is REALLY old, but its a flux bead on a 110v welder.

this was before i hit it with the wire brush on the drill .. (i was outside and windy doing a jig, hence the reason i was using flux)

The picture above is obviously thicker than sheetmetal, say the thickness of the floorboard. If you have the funds I would switch over to smaller wire (.023") and run gas (25%/75% mix). Smaller wire takes less voltage to melt which is why you can weld thinner material better with it. The metal is thin already plus you probably cleaned it up with a small grinder to remove the paint so it is thinner yet causing it to blow holes when you try and weld it. Flux core welds hotter which is why you can weld thicker material with it.

I have the same welder, I know it sucks to have to read but the manual that came with it explains everything these guys are telling you in much more detail

so I should try playing with the settings and if that doesnt work get a bottle? I would need argon and what else?

Argon/Co2. Its a standard 75/25 mix. Just use gas, thats going to be the best way really.

you will find it much easier by switching to gas. if you dont know how to use it, flux core is a huge pain in the ass. it makes an mess and can be a hasle if you havent been welding for a while. at least it was that way for me.

I learned with flux core. and on top of that just now getting to the sheetmetal part of the build, its not that hard with 3/16 or 1/4 inch. so this will be like learning all over with gas?
