what kind of camcorders are companies using like domination the video, crime pays video, lowlife dvd, and etc. im looking into getting a digital camcorder with 30g harddrive or larger to record and edit my own video. just wondering what kind they are using. DOES ANYBODY KNOW?

I've seen some of them using the Canon GL2 and XL2. They are MiniDV though, not hard drive models.

mines a hitachi with a fisheye lense on it. Aaron, some of us dont have money like you... aka me haha! you got the high def. sony, takes better quality than any other camera anyone is using right now. I just sent mine back in for maintenance so i can pick up where i left off on the (409)

i think 1 gig is equal to 5 minutes of raw footage so i think you may only be able to fit like an hour and a half on a hard drive camera, that really limits yourself. we will go through 3-4 tapes at a show usually some times 10 tapes if we are there a whole weekend. and it sucks to know you cant film anymore cause the tapes are full.

we are usin a sony vx 2100 also
love it
we tried the canon gl but there was somethin that we just werent feelin about the camera, still good cam though the sony was just easier and brighter at night

we filmed our entire second dvd with a basic camera though and still got great footage
we used a tiny panasonic but what made it do so well was that it was a 3ccd camera i guess gave it better color. as long as you look into the picture quality on a basic camera you cant really go wrong. its truely all in how you film and edit that really make for a great video

its not really about the video camera its whos behind it.

nick what are you using to edit? i've tried a few demo's of adobe premier, but didn't feel real comfortable with it.

yep im usin premier 1.5
i wasnt comfortable with it at all my first week of class
but i love it now
i love how simple it is
i took 1 semester of BASIC (really basic) video editing class just to see what it was like and learned everything i needed to know.
if i hadnt taken the class i probably wouldnt have figured out how to use the dam thing

sony cameras are generally good for night shots as they will show more detail.

the hard drive cameras have their own type of files that some of the older versions of premiere and final cut won't read. there are plug-ins, but the camera should come with some sort of software to convert it to something more manageable.

also, hd footage is going to take 5 times the amount of hard drive space as standard video when it comes time to edit it. one minute is going to equal a gigabyte.

i dig dv tape much better. like nick said, he could shoot all day, just pop in a new tape.

just my 2 cents...
