i've always seen it as easiest to figure fronts when the fenders are off if ya want to go that far, then you can have the truck set at ride height, figure half travel of the shock and locate the outer most part of the lower arm you can connect to while turning the wheels both ways. then raise and lower it and turn the wheels(as much as they will when layed out). also make sure the truck still lays out, sometimes a small shock does not have enough travel to allow even when set at half travel. i've even mounted them to the uppers in space constraints. shocks will slow you down a bit in the back but the front being heavier its never seemed all that different. i've used metering valves, also i've swapped dump valves for smaller ones. shocks will definately make a difference in the back.
