I've been to the eye doctor 3 times in the last year or so. I always wear safety glasses, but still get shit in my eyes. I am very persistent about it too, if I can't find them I will clean up until I find them (I always misplace them, all 3), and I make other people wear them. I have friends that never wear them, and have never had shit in their eyes.
It costs me $75 to get it dug out. Then insurance reimburses $50 for it. The second time I had it done, he actually missed a piece and left it there. I went about a week with mild discomfort before it got really bad. It got to the point where my left eye was constantly watering, and looked like I was crying on one side all the time. He looked it over, and admitted he must have missed something, because it was healing over a very small piece. He gave me some numbing medication, and dug in deep to retrieve that one. Told me it would hurt VERY bad, and prescribed some Vicodin. I needed it, because it did hurt about an hour later, for days.
For glasses, I actually found a really nice set one time I was at the welding store. They have a real nice shape to them, and very thick sides, and conform to your face very well. They were about $20, but I haven';t had any issues. The only thing thats annoying is they are 100% clear and easy to loose.
