K, so I have a Designtech remote start in my Sierra(came with the truck) well it worked good for a while, then all of the sudden one morning it did its thing, flashed thge lights and turned over, but didnt start. Then I had to wait about 10-15 minutes before I could start the truck with the key. Now all the thing will do is turn over and stop, then I have to wait before I can start the truck manually.

Anyone have an idea as to why this is? Does the brain need to be reset? Or is it FUBAR'd?

it's possible if you have chipped keys that there is a box under the dash w/ a extra key in it that allows the starter to bypass that security feature, i think they usually just loop a wire around the key, and sometimes that could change positions and not send the signal anymore.... as a test, you can put your key in the ignition without turning the key, then use the remote... if it starts, that's likely the problem... good luck!

not sure that my theory jives w/ the 15 minute wait to start it manually though...

No there deffinately shouldnt be an extra key that would normally be a ford with a vats system this is a passkey system.. more than likely this thing was hooked up without using a tacometer wire probably using some kind of voltage sensing.. anyway it failed to start once and then probably confused the passkey system....but regardless sounds like youve got an issue with a bypass module no longer learned or defective. im not at all familiar with that particular brand though, just my quick two cents

o yeah what year is this sierra?

was it icy cold outside and do you have a good battery?

its an '01 and it was probably pretty cold out when it quit workin, and yes the battery is fine, it starts every morning with the key just fine, this morning it was 14 degrees outside and the truck started fine, I just ran outside really fast, started the thing, and ran back inside. But if I try the remote start, it flashes the lights, fuel pump primes, and it turns over, but just doesnt start. Then when I touch the brake or put the key in the ignition, it wont start for aobut 10-15 minutes, it turns over, just doesnt start. after the time goes by, its fine, and starts manually, but I'm irritated that the remote start isnt functioning properly, cuz its cold outside.

sounds like a bad bypass or someone was lazy and didnt hook up tack but im not familer with that brand

btw most "factory remote starts" are installed by the dealer by mechanics most reputible stereo shops will look at it for free and can diagnose the prob

trash it and get an autopage RS-622! If thats not an option, The reason its not starting after about 15 mins after you hit the brake Its prob a saftey feature on that remote start. That thing uses a viper 555l or 556lw which does not require an extra key. If its cranking over and not starting mainly when its really cold , the crank time may just need to be turned up. Which would be done with the programming feature.
