my painter removed my vin tag off my truck while painting it. now its been lost during rhe duration of the build.i have bill of sale paper work from the guy i bought the truck from.i just never registered it in my name.how will i go about getting another vin tag? or how do i get this thing registered? i have receipts for everything i installed on the truck.

What i have to say is not to be mean .Why would the the painter remove the vin tag?Any body shop i have dealt with would not remove the vin tag.The only way would be if you were having the dash custom made or redone. You will more than likely not get a new vin tag from gm or any other shop. You will have to take all your paper work to your local dmv and have them make you one.It is not going to be cheap and there will be a ton of hops to jump thru.As they will make sure you are not trying to sneak around a written of truck or anything like that.Sorry to give you bad news but this is going to be HARD.I would ask your body guy why would you not put the vin plate in an evelope with the work order or something like that.

yeah i understand. it was a new dash that i had built. thats where the headache began with the whole vin tag situation.

what does the vin tag have to do with getting it registered? all i have to do to register something is take the title to the dmv and say hey register this...they never see the car

Sounds like I would be killing a painter, or a painter is about to come off some money for being so irresponsible.

if you have a AAA card you can goto AAA and they will handle every thing for you then you will have to goto a shop thats qualified to reinstall the vin. there government is very strict about it. they go as far as telling them what rivets to use.
