Lincoln welder website has tech on how to weld cast iron and it does require some pretty tedious tricks as mentioned above.

now i no i didnt do it right, but a couple years back i was ignorant and didnt know any better and i welded tabs to the top of my blazer rear end. i did it with a flux core welder. i ran a bead and if u have ever used flux core, it takes a while to make a pass. by the time i got do the tabs were cherry red and i let it cool off over night. the truck was my daily for over two years. i never had a problem. i seen a pic on here when someone knocked so tabs off a pumpkin with a hammer easily. when i redid my truck i beat the shit out of them with a hammer and they didnt budge. i just though i would share. i guess i just got really lucky?!
