1970 toyota hilux - yay or nay?

okay, so the offer came up to me today to get a 70 toyota hilux. either for 200 bucks or some work on the weekends on his brothers 82 yota. the cab and front end, as well as the chassis have all been restored and painted a medium green. dont remember if the doors are done to match or not yet. i think so. dont remember what, if anything is shaved. its a family of minitruckers, so some probably is. motor and maybe tranny is painted. needs assembly and glass. bed needs all the resto and body work, and paint. no interior in it right now except maybe some of the dash.

he also told me he has like a grand worth of NOS OEM parts to go along. said its an 8R.

should i go for this and finish it as my new daily (have a 92 yota - see profile) and sell what i got or just get this and move it along? i cant find much for pictures of them done. ill get pictures of it soon, if i cant find the old ones i took.

opinions, info on lowering them, ect would be awesome.

also, he said its manual drums all around. whats involved in making it have power and/or discs up front. thanks people.

You mean 18R?

Swapping to discs would probably mean a 78 ish spindle and brakes, probably the master cylinder too. Those have the same frame and spindles.

love em man... i was thinkin of that peac yota that chop shoip built but its a bit diff on the front end right? anyway, 78 front shit should be easy to find... but upgrading to 84 would be a better bet imo so you could get spindles!

what year range did the discs with the same spindle go? and i dont know, he said "8RG or something" and wikipedia said they would have an 8R. i dunno. are the clutchs on those hydrolic or linkage style? i havent looked in there in a long time. ill go check out what NOS parts he has for it tomorrow on my lunch (attic at work, hes the old owner/new shop foreman) and the truck this weekend or after work some night. its at his house. i just really dislike on those older minis how the bed doesnt match the cab in height. but i thought about making a stepside bed and scraping whats there all together. i dunno.

i dunno. 70 yota. looks like the two 70s that have profiles on here.

there was an 8R engine. 70-73, 74-78, 79-83 are the old years.

No.... You can't swap these to the 84-95 spindles, unless you want to swap the whole frame. The design isn't even remotely close.

well i know its coils and not bars. which kinda sucks for lowering, but an s10 drop coil might work. do they make drop spindles for the old stuff? and a 79-83 spindles and brakes will work? those are plentiful at the junkyards.

No.... You can't swap these to the 84-95 spindles, unless you want to swap the whole frame. The design isn't even remotely close.

79-83 will not work. Its pre 78 that will be the same.
