Is there a certian procedure i should follow when trying to start an engine that has been sitting for 9 years?

pull the plugs first and look for moisture!

Spin the pulleys by hand and see if the engine is locked up.If not crank it for a bit till you get oil pressure then spray some carb cleaner in it and see if it pops off.If it does rebuild the fuel system and change the oil.

pull your plugs out spray wd40 in each plug hole then let it set a bit turn the crank by hand. get a gas can and hook up to the fuel pump just too see if it will run,and prime the carb,if it is a carb. good luck

Put a battery in it, pump the gas and turn the key. I do it all the time on old cads, if it cranks and has spark, then i mess with the rest of the stuff said above.

or just dump a can of eether in it and see what happens?

What is it? Is the car 9 yrs old? or is it older but has been sitting for 9 years?
Either way..pull a few plugs, get a good batt., turn it over in small burst..pausing to let the fuel pump run some if it has one...then try eether
