obviously i like the frenched 59 caddy lights. after spending a month and a half hand building the buckets, i found out you can get them for like $60 a pair. And you can get the whole housing (lens, chrome bezel, light plate and light) at speedway motors for like $80 a pair. I used the stock light plug and cut the bezel on the back so i just have stock tail light bulbs instead of the crappy one they give you with the lenses. i'd say go custom, for sure. is there a gap in the tailgate? You could do the line of fire led at the bottom of the tailgate where it flips down, that way they won't be seen until you hit the brakes. Or you could put in some clear lenses and paint over them, the coolest tails i've ever seen were on an s10 with white flames running around the back, some of the flames were the lenses, completely looked like the graphic until the dude hit the brakes, it was badass. good luck with whatever you do, dude.
and just my personal opinion, i think you need to stay brand specific if you're doing something totally different. I don't know who makes the scout, but if it's ford, dodge, or chevy, i'd go with a really old style tail light unless you try to hide them someway. A buddy of mine has just 4 small oval lenses with chrome bezels in the rollpan, they look pretty badass
