I cant afford the big rig wheels so I am looking at putting a set of 17x6 black wheels on my 97 Chevy Dually but I want to see what size tire to run on them. I am also worried about the loead rating of the tire, I do not want blowouts in the future. I have included a pic of the rims I want to go with and a pic of my Dually as it is now with 16x6 wheels on it. The truck has a belltech 5/7 drop with rear bags. If anyone can post some pics of there tires mounted that would be great to.

probably 225/75/17 is the smallest tire youll find with an E load rating

Does it have to be an E rated tire?

It is going to be hard to find a tire that is the diameter you want in a load rated tire if you are wanting one.

A 235/65/17 is almost the same diameter of the 225/75/16s your truck has on it from the factory. I show some Yokohama Geolander tires that have the XL sidewalls with an E load rating.

I use to have that exact wheel on my 2000 GMC, (pictures below) my first question is what are you going to run for your inside steel wheel since your factory wheel is 16" and the new wheel is 17", I had to have Trevor at T.W.A.T machine me a custom inside 17" wheel so all 6 would be 17", I am running a Firestone tire all the way around 225/65/17 in front and 235/65/17 rear they are not e rated, the pictures with the wheel like you want have a shorter side wall tire on them and I changed tires when I put on the new style wheel. Hope they will help.
your wheel style in 17" with shorter tires

I forgot to mention the offset of the front wheel is pushed out toward the fender lip alot closer and being lowered you might have to roll your front fender lip, and also trim your rear fender lip a little depending on your final tire size width in the back.

Thanks for all the info! What wheels and tires are in the pic of the truck with the front flares? Also why the front flares? Did it help with rubbing in some way? That looks even better to me with the chrome wheels on it.

What machine work had to be done to the inside wheels? Why wouldn't OE 17" steel wheels work as is?

He explained that it had 16" wheel on it, when he went with 17" he had to buy a pair of 17" steel rear inners to match. He has the new inner 17" steel wheels custom made for him.
