I have two viar 380's wired up like this:

The only thing that I have different is I have a distribution block.

I keep blowing one of my fuses. I have experimented enough to discover that I have two constants.

1. The problem follows one compressor. meaning that regardless of wires and relays, it still blows the fuse on the same compressor.

2.It happens when the compressor kicks on from a drop in tank pressure, and the pressure switch turns on.

I have blown quite a few 100amp fuses, so getting a bigger fuse is not the answer.

I'm looking for any ideas on what it could be.
Could the compressor be physically damaged internally?

Has anyone ever rebuilt a 380?

sorry for the novel, but I am very desperate here! Any help is appreciated.

Sat. morning bump!

you should have 2 constants, if you're running 2 relays. a constant to each.

it sounds like its within your compressor. stick a voltage meter on that compressor, switch it to amps, make the compressor kick on and see what its pulling. you might have a problem with the electrical inside the compressor.

^^^Thats sounds about right. It actually turned on once today without blowing the fuse. Does any one know the what's inside a Viair compressor that could be causing this? I'm planning on taking it apart to see, and I don't want any surprises.

your viairs are prolly pissed cuz ur using a AZ wiring diagram to wire them up! sorry man, cant help ya but good luck.

well, if Viair had that kind of stuff on there website it sure would be nice.

haha yeah, just kiddin ya man!

I HATE VIAIR LEADER HOSES AND THEIR SHITTY CHECK VALVES!!!

The compressor only pulls an assload of amps when the tank is around 200 psi. If the shitty check valve did it's job the tank pressure would have no affect on the compressor.

Anyways, I'm looking for some new compressors(no telling when the other one is going to die).

Are the AZ's still shitty?

Are the Viair leader hoses still shitty?

Even with a "working" check valve wouldnt the compressor still have to push against 200psi to get air into the tank??

The Check valve only keep air from flowing backwards not reduce the work of the compressor.

But then again i could be wrong.

This may be way of but if the check valve is failing it would put high pressure in the fill hoe when the compressor tries to start. This would cause it to over work the compressor at the begining causing the fuse to blow. if the check valve works properly there is low pressure in the fill line and the compressor has a chance to get started before the valve opens to fill the tank. Check to see if you release the pressure on the fill line before it starts if that helps the compressor start without popping a fuse. I had a problem similar to this when I first installed my compressor.
