The York compressors are built similar to an engine. They have a crankshaft, pistons, valves, and a crankcase that holds the oil like your oil pan does.
The Sanden uses a swash plate with multiple small pistons. Looks like a 6 shot revolver. They normally need a constant (drip) oil supply because the oil passed through in into your airline.
