At approximately 3 PM, Tuesday, July 2, a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500, pullinga new travel trailer, hit the corner of the Texas State Bank Drive-Inon Tenaha Street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground.Luckily, the driver of the Dodge, Mickey Miller, of Garrison and his10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured.
According to Miller he was circling the bank to park on the other sidewhen the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bankawning. Next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started fallingagainst his driver's side door. Somehow he was able to unbuckle theseat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling. _______
What amazes me is the lack of support columns. I do carpenter work for a living and I would make sure it was supported enough. I don't know how fast he was going but in Oklahoma that thing could get knocked down in a wind storm by the way it fell. Crazy! The actual columns are about normal for that size structure , Problem is where they improperly made/poured I would think Steel columns would be required but Texas code is quite relaxed . What the main cause was, how it was attached to wall if it had not let loose the beams would not have crumbled . Either way very poorly made
