Has anyone used the suicide door hinges from FBI? I'm looking for a cheaper alternative that the SD kits.

Haven't installed a set myself, but we've sold over 1,000 sets over the past couple of years with minimal drama, if that helps!

The SD hinges are SUPER beefy, and look very well-built.

Our hinges are a bit smaller, but still feature steel hinge pins riding on bronze bushings, they use 1/2" steel for the hinge arms, and are generally much stronger than the stock hinges most vehicles come with.

It's really up to you whether you need the extra size/ strength of the SD kit. I haven't seen ours fail, and I've sold them for some pretty heavy doors (60s cars, 60s and 70s trucks, etc.)...

But again, my opinion MIGHT be a little bit biased- I try to leave that out of my posts, but it happens!

I don't know the specifics of the FBI kit, but I used a kit from gauge. They were fine and all, but the SD kit is wider, so the doors swing out further. My doors come way too close to hitting the cab with the kit i used. I had to limit them to open 45*. Just something to watch for...

He's got a good point- if you have a very "curvy" body, you may be limited by how deep the hinge is.
We used one of these kits on our shop Gremlin and ran into that problem- the thing has so much curve from top to bottom that we had to put stops in the hinges to keep the doors from hitting the quarter panel.

Most trucks shouldn't have this problem, though- they tend to be pretty flat...

Should be alright.. my fullsize chevy had issues though. In hindsight, I should have bucked up and bought the SD kit.

i used a set on my 88 toyota & there's no complaints. work great. had to brace the inside of the door a little, but that was only because of the weight. i'd say go for it & you won't be dissapointed!
