okay i've been thinking a lot about this lately....i see a lot of young guys (16-22 or so) that have bagged and/or bodydropped trucks. i'm 21 and in college and there's no way i could even afford to THINK about dropping my truck off at a shop to get a bag job. but i was wondering how everyone paid for it? and whats the smartest way? do you just save up till you have enough cash and then bring your truck to a shop? or do people ever take out loans to get their truck worked on and then pay the bank back gradually? i'm not sure which i should do, i just wanted to see how everyone else did it. like people that dont have fulltime jobs and are still in school and stuff. i figured taking out a small loan (no more than $1000) and paying it back quickly would help build up my credit. but if thats a bad idea i wont do it. sorry for the book, just need some answers to my thoughts

I build everything myself....takes longer but its a lot cheaper and more fun...and i go to school full time...work full time too to help pay for it...i dont think I could ever take my truck to a shop just because I honestly have a hard time trusting them any more, not saying that their isnt trustworthy shops...

well for me, i never put anything on credit cards, or have i ever taken out a loan. the way the economy is today i dont think that would be a smart idea. if you have to save to buy something, get work done then save up. dont put yourself in financial debt at an early age. if i dont have money to spend, i dont do anything to the truck. thats my opinion. be smart, you'll be better off in the long run!

I trade services for most the ones I have done. Got screwed by the guy with the backhoe. He never showed up.

i agree with eric...building trucks is fun and all but not worth digging yourself into a huge financial hole...i only buy parts with actual cash lol...

My credit card only gets used to order, then its paid off before I get something else. And thats only because theres no real shops around me that are within driving distance, so everything comes over the internet.

lol....That must be a KY thing...

Ive done most everything (with the exception of paint) myself or with help of friends.....i have been working on it for about 5 years now (i am 23 now)....its been a long frustrating process because i have redone so many things so many times.....

but trading work usually seems to be my best solution if there is something i couldnt do...

but i wouldnt go in debt for anything...its not worth it....if u HAVE to get someone else to do the work....save for it

Their is nothing wrong with wanting to build up your credit & taking out a small personal loan would be a good idea. I did that when I was 18...I wanted to juice my Toyota truck & didnt have enough cash...so my mom helped
me get a personal loan & I got the truck done. I paid off the loan & it helped me with my credit. As for the younger guys & gilrs who ride around in bagged/body dropped trucks then I have an opinion on that, but I dont want to start anything so Ill keep it to myself lol!! Just think about what you want to do & dont get in over your head!
