D.O.M Steel Round Tube Question

Do you guys use D.O.M or just schedule 40 pipe when doing tube work on suspensions?

thers nothin wrong with using sch 40, they r more ppl using sch 40 than u might think. all my susp work is sch 40 and nothin has bent. if u want 2 u D.O.M thats fine but ur goin 2 pay alot more 4 it

is use sch. 40 for tube work,havent tried it for like link bars tho

Schedule 40 is for plumbing and has no place for anything structural unless your building a handrail for some stairs. I use mild steel tubing which is basically the same as DOM. DOM is stronger than Mild Steel because it is seamless. Drawn Over Mandrel. Regular Mild steel tubing has a seam because it is welded down the center.

ive always used sch 40 or 80, never had a problem with anything.

i would never use any kinda pipe for suspension work. only tube seamed or seamless

sch 40 is seamless it just aint cold rolled

I never use pipe in my suspension. Its heavier and weaker than steel.

I use DOM on occasion, but its a hassle to get really. I only buy it when I actually need seamless tubing. The majority of the tube I use is electric welded, or ERW. If you go to a steel shop and ask for whatever size round tube, in XX thickness, thats what you will get.

DOM is seamless and as already stated stands for Drawn Over Mandrel. Most 4130 tubing is DOM. What most of us refer to as DOM is typically 1010 to 1020 mild steel seamless tubing. Most seamed tubing is not as high of a grade as DOM, but isn't that big of a concern for what we do with it.

The idea of using pipe of any type on a suspension is crude. It will work and will probably last forever, but is not considered good practice. I don't think that I have ever read a book that talked about anything built out of pipe.

Once again, along the same lines as a 2-link or a reverse 4-link, if you have used pipe and it worked for you, don't go around bragging about how perfect it works. It's not right and just as the misinformation about how perfect a poor suspension design is passed around, this should not be passed around either. You can and should comment that you have used it and that it hasn't been an issue, but stating that DOM is a waste of money is completely false.

DOM mechanical steel tubing is manufactured from electric resistance welded hollows and cold drawn though a die and over a mandrel, improving surface finish, mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy of both outside and inside diameters.(stole from PTC alliance). I have also heard this from many other reliable sources.
