I am in the market for a new engine for my blue truck and am not sure exactly what I want to run with. I was planning on running a slightly beefed up 22re and throw a turbo on it but I don't think I will be able to get respectable hp numbers out of it like I would putting the same money in another engine. Trying to keep it under $3000 total because I can build my 22re with a trubo setup for less than that. Today I found a black top sr20 (I know, its a nissan engine) for dirt cheap and those things can get some great numbers and still not blow my budget but how hard would it be to get an engine like that into my truck? would I have to use a nissan tranny to? Also I was thinking a celica gts engine but don't know much about those either. More or less wanting something I can get around 300 hp and still have better than v8 gas mileage. anybody got some suggestions? I had my chance at a full 2jz swap but I passed it up so what now??? trying to stay in the 4 cyl range more or less.

do a 2.7l 2rz out of tacoma. i had a 98 and it was the fasted stock 4cyl truck i have driven, and it got 24mpg. check out http://paradiseracing.com/ they have a race car that runs something like 7s in the 1/4 mile with a 2rz

i would have to say that the taco engine is a good choice. they are pretty popular. so is the 3.4 V6 taco motors.

as for 4 bangers, i would say that the sr20s are sweet choices, and they have nice trannys behind them. also, the 3g63 mitsu motors (eclipse, starion, ect) are nice. but i think you have to run the truck tranny, which shifts like a truck tranny. theres also the honda b series, which would be badass if you could adapt it to a RWD tranny. i wish i knew of a way to do that.

im in a similar boat. ive put a webber and a header on my 20r, but i know within like a year its going to be time for a motor. and i want to stick with a 4 banger. i can always use these parts on another toyota truck. im sure ill have more. id be happy with 180-200 hp. which is just above stock numbers on alot of the sports car 4 bangers. which lowers cost some.

well, I had a 2rz in my 96 taco and it was the slowest truck Ive ever owned but mabye it was because I had a 2 pump hydro setup with 6 batteries weighing it down. I would like to stick with the toyota brand because I know the engines last forever and dont break very often at all (at least from my experiences) but about the honda in my truck, I saw a mazda with a s2000 motor in it and it was pretty cool and thos are my other brand of choice as a daily vehicle because of reliability. all that aside I found a twin turbo 2.5l maserati v-6 last night with 24000 miles on it for sale and its in my price range(barely). I haven't seen a maserati swap in anything yet so that sounds cool to me. any of you know about those engines other than it will cost an arm and a leg to fix it if it breaks? I think it would be an interesting sound coming from my truck too. I love the sound of a boxer engine but I don't think I can find anything under 2500 and I don't know if it would even fit. Don't you guys think it would be cool to hear an sti engine sound coming from a truck? I guess I just opened up to a v6 option too.

and the only thing I don't like about honda and the 4g63 is that they are interference motors and pretty much junk if that timing belt happens to break. I know from personal experience with honda and from a friends experience on the 4g63. I had a 4g63 in my 92 tsi and those are pretty awesome engines but they are also tempermental too.

7mgte's will bolt up to your transmission. You'll have to use the supra fly wheel and clutch for the 7mgte. You can use the supra tranny if you want but you'll have to shorten the drive shaft. This is probably the cheapest toyota truck-supra swap you'll find. There are a few that have done this and have them posted on the web. There are even a few videos on you tube. 7mgte came in mkII supras, I believe.

i have a 7M-GE and auto trans if your interested? around 65k on motor and dont know about tranny but tranny does work i drove the car before i took the motor out and put it in my van. and i also have the harness and ecu for the motor. i got the motor from a place and somethings were taking off so i guess you wood need to look at it to see if you wanted it or not that is if your interested let me know

the 7M came in a turbo and non turbo in the 86.5 supras until the 92 supras. those were the only engines they had in the US market. the 89-92 cressida also had the 7M in a non turbo. but, only automatics came in those. i would strongly advise using the W58 tranny from the supra. GE means no turbo. GTE means turbo.

ive personally been doing alot of research lately for my own motor situation. ive looked into specs and available parts for toyotas, and the 4agd or whatever, the 3T-C, the 18RU and a few others are good older engines. have stock outputs of like 110-150. but i dunno if they would be able to push 200 without turbos or alot of money invested.

ive also looked into the nissan sr20 engines. those can be had for a few grand from japan with 50ishK on the odometer, with pretty much everything youd need to start it in anything. they are 202 or 220 depending what year they are from. which isnt bad. a nice intake and exhaust, better turbo elbows and downpipes and stuff like that, it should be roughly 15-20 more atleast. better wastegate or a way to get another lb or two of boost, thats a bit more.

the third option ive got in my head is to go rotary from an rx7. what ive found from initial research is that the 86-88 or 89-91 turbo engines have 190-200 hp in stock form. id assume the normal intake exhaust stuff and so forth would get typical gains. the 13B engine is the one in pretty much every rx7/8. and other stuff. the 12a seems less desirable. anyways, ive seen them going locally with a rough car around a decent drivetrain for like 1500-2000. 2500-4000 for a nice car with some aftermarket stuff done to the drivetrain. the 13b is a 1.3L, but they say that output and feel of rotary motors is roughly that of something 150% its size. so like 2.0Ls. so, most 4 bangers.

anyways, im kinda diggin that idea. because i also wanna door my yota, and these engines are tiny. and they weigh much less. which helps power to weight ratios.
