can't wait to see that motor in there!! just a curiosity question, why a 305 over a 350? just wondering.

Well i knew a guy who had the engine sitting in the corner of his shop for a while and i thought it was a 350 and so did he. it was so dirty and greasy that i couldnt see any of the numbers on it. i traded him an air compressor for it that i never used. once i got it torn apart and cleaned i realized it was a 5.0 annd not a 5.7, but i dont care. im not trying to make a drag truck. my stock engine and trans sucks so bad and i just want to update it with something that goes more than 65mph. this engine came out of an 88 chevy 1500 and it was TBI and had a serpantine setup. so i switched over to the short water pump and carb, and im gonna run v-belts. i compression tested it first and all the cylinders were right where they should be so i didnt even take the heads off. just degreased and scrubbed the shit out of it and painted it. but all the gaskets besides the head gaskets are new. just need headers, and a new oil pan and its ready to drop in. its pretty much stock, it has a edelbrock victor jr manifold, and an edelbrock performer 600cfm carb, and i polished all the intake ports. im gonna put a gear drive in it too because i love the noise. but it should still be pretty fast in such a small truck.

i get ya. just wondered if people had the option of choosing a 305 or 350, if they chose a 305, what their reasons where. i'm not a motor god so i don't know all the ins and outs of the differences, if there even is a big difference. i was wondering what that intake manifold was cuz the front looked weird. didn't know edelbrock had one like that. can't wait to see it tearing up the streets. and ya, i'm sure even a 4.3L would be fast in such a small truck. lol

Well the difference between a 305 and 350 is just a hp difference. They are the same block and the 350 just has larger cylinders. And yeah it's a victor jr. Manifold from edelbrock. I would have rather had a 350 but I'm not trying to make a bunch of power, just want something a Lil more dependable and something parts are availible for.

Got some new parts for my engine, it's looking good. Too bad it's going into such a turd of a truck.
