Back in the day I ran a full stack of civic coils over my cylinders and it rode pretty damn good. I also had a shock idea where it would not interfere with the lift of the car, it would dampen the suspension only, but I never got around to making it.
Only problem with coils in a coil "over" scenario (different than what Aaron is doing) is the movement of the cylinder can cause wear and noise. Also the cylinder travel can come into contact with other parts on a car like the hood, or the cv boot should it be inverted.
On a truck you can juice it with coils and get a factory-like ride without the use of accumulators. Most people just run accumulators because it's so simple to do and they ride phenomonal.
