Has this happened to anyone else? NC DMV issues...

Ok...so it's like 30 degrees outside and I"m in the garage, and I run out of kerosene for the heater. So I hop in the wife's suburban and head to the gas station to get some.

Well, on the way home, Johnny Law pulls me over.

He tells me that my insurance has lapsed. In NC, if your insurance laps, you have to turn in your tag to the DMV for 30 days and pay a $50.00 fine. BUT....My insurance has never lapsed! I called the wife and she got on the phone with the insurance company. They verified that my insurance had never lapsed and was more than willing to talk to the cop to let them know. The cop said it was out of his hands and there was nothing he could do (which I later found was bullshit).

Now, I'm out of a tag for my suburban until Monday when I can go to the DMV, a total of 2 days off work (1 for the DMV and one for the court date), and a ridiculous 105 dollar tow to go 1/4 of a mile!

Has this happened to anyone else?

i dont know about ur laws, but i would make the city pay for your tow, fines, and time off of work

hmmmm.... thats a new one on me. the NC DMV has been having a ton of problems lately though in raleigh. i have been at the DMV inspections office alot lately getting shit straight on some of my purchases and such. my buddy who is an inspector has told me a number of times they are havin alot of confusion lately in the capital.

that happened to me when i was stationed there. somehow my insurance lapsed for 3 days and one day there was a cop behind me and i guess he ran my plates and it showed up. i never gave up my plates though. hell, i actually have it hanging up in my garage. hahaha. i would fight it bro, that is bullshit. all the money you are going to be out because of the cop screwing up somehow.

Thats why I'm so pissed off....I've had this insurance company ever since I've had this vehicle and it has NEVER lapsed! Some fuckstick got fatfingered at the DMV and keyed in the wrong tag! And now, I'm being screwed because of it.

Typical law...they are suppose to inforce the law, but when it comes to actually knowing the facts about something they dont have a clue. It sucks that your having to go through all this...Id fight it all the way just to prove a point!

what county was it in ? when you get it on paper from your ins. company and the DMV go to the DA and plead your case monday if it all up & up they should drop the court date and then refund the tow bill from the state,it will take you a long time too get the check from railgh.

bythe way you have to have premission from the state to fill suit aginst the state..

that cop my have been wrong on this BUT remember for the most part they are good dude's just doing there job.

sounds like a cop that doesnt know what the fuck he's talking about. or is that always the case? damn cops. im a newly hired firefighter and i still dont like cops. do i respect them? yes. do i like them? no sir.
