Ok so my truck has been stockfloored inside of the stock frame under the cab with 2x4. The steel comes all the way out till about 6" past the first bed mount and then its the stock frame again. I want to get rid of the rest of the frame from the cab back and back half it with 2x4. This way i can rid my self of all the past work that has been done and start fresh. I am somewhat new to the building scene and want to make sure its done right. My buddy who built my truck last year is always around to lend a hand but he has other obligations this winter so i am pretty much on my own. It is going to be a pretty simple set up. So my feelings are to take a bunch of measurements before the stock frame comes off and start building the new rails. Can anyone lend some helpful hints or tips that i should follow to make sure this gets done the right way so i dont have to redo it yet once again lol

Take a lot of measurements as you mentioned. I would suggest tacking all four corners of the tubes before fully welding anything.

Keeping it square will probably be your biggest fight.

i just cant quit. i have this dream in my head of having this super badass truck that has everything i want. I am currently building the motor. i have a new intake manifold, cam, springs, headers etc. I am retubing the firewall to fit my 30 series tires, just got a new fuel cell and pump, its just never ending. Now i just need to get this back half wrapped up so i can start building the new suspension around it and fitting the cell and everything in. Just want to make sure i know exactly what im doing before the fun begins lol.

Measure stuff like the length of the frame, how wide it is, diagonal on the frame, your wheelbase, from the ground to the top of your axle. I built my last backhalf completely off the truck. I built it on a flat table, and it was much easier to square up. Then when joining it to the frame it was pretty easy to square up with the stock frame.

Thats pretty much how I did the last S-10 I did, built it and pressure tested it off the truck.

Another thing that helps me alot is a digital level....I get the truck 100% Level using a digital level. Then when I start building the backhalf everything should be level. Measure 10 times, and weld once.
