My dad is giving me a 1971 Super Beetle that I want to build for my kids. I am going to pick it up this weekend coming up and bringing it back to my place to store until I come back from overseas. From what I am told, it has a 1600cc motor in it now. I want to try to find a 1800cc crate motor with a new tranny to drop in it. I will also be upgrading everything and bagging it. My oldest daughter is 8 and I want to have it completed when she turns 16. So i have plenty of time so now I just want to start on my research and get things rollin in for it.

Any information you guys have on these little cars please let me know. I have never messed with a beetle before so this will be the first. I already know to relocate the battery from under the back seat, my brothers had the car in high school and the back seat caught on fire from the battery. Hahaha. Thanks guys.

this is my advice, scrap the fat chick(super beetle) and get something older and easier to work with. This is just my opinion tho.

Really! Are they that bad to work on? I don't have to worry about the smog test, it is older than 25 yrs old.

he is in Texas, he doesnt have to Smog it anyway. We have a 71 Super Convertible, Well Rachel Does. #1 We are building a Super because no one else does....#2 any older Verts were way out of her price Range. #3, we have a Modified Airkewld kit we are putting on it...Probably gonna raise the Strut Towers and such to make it lay....Email me at info@gatordrag.com and I can get you started on some of your questions....

too much drama on the samba, peeps on volksrodder dont know thier heads from thier asses when it comes to airbagging/airshocking a vw. Your best bet IMO is to hit www.lowlifevw.com There are guys on there who have been in the scene for decades and have prolly the most vastg amount of knowledge of any other vw community on the net.

There are a couple peeps on lowlife that work at streetbeat and also sell airbag kits for vws along with pete from airkewled.

get on the site, set up a noob intro and dont be afraid to ask questions. You might get some peeps being dicks to you so its best to be a lil thick skinned on there but for the most part the peeps on there are more than willing to help you, just hafta ask
