i finally graduated a 3 week driving school friday to get my cdl to drive a big rig.....everybody beware on the interstate because im going to be burning the pavement up in about a week... j/k i start my job the 14th with tmc . they are a flat bed carrier. they give you a brand new 06 peterbilt fully loaded with leather and all the bells and whistles,, well after a couple of weeks of training. lol ,so im excited...school cost like 4grand, but the company pays for the cost as long as you work for them......i cant wait.....woohooo!

Congratulations Sparky-

Now get out there in that nice new black pete with the shiny gold letters on the door and start tearing up the road. I've been driving a truck for almost 16 years now and have put in close to 3 million miles in commercial vehicles of all types. How long do you gotta work for them til they call it even on the driving school?

Have you ever driven a flat bed before? Its a good place to start cause if you go back to driving a van your job gets that much easier. In the mean time though you have to allow extra time to strap down the load at every stop...kinda sucks up north here strapping a load down for 45 minutes when its 5 below zero outside.
TMC is a pretty good company to work for though.

One more word of advice...Dont ever accept a safety award from your employer unless its in the form of cash! Some companies give out jackets for safety awards and i never accept them...its a JINX! Just about everyone i know who takes a safety award goes out a week later and gets in an accident. I tell my boss to donate them to coats for kids or give them away.

Congrats on the CDL! I'm thinking I would like to get one so if I expand my towing Co. bigger and get a Landoll flatbed. I love the KW's and PETE's

thanks guys, i havent ever driven a truck with a flatbed but i figure it would be cool to do,as i dont mind all the tarping and strapping,...i have to work for 36 months for the company to pay off the cost of the school, my payment is 154.00 a month and tmc will pay for 150.00 per month..but i can always put a litte more with it and get it payed off that much sooner.....

hey bowtiecowboy, i have a few choices of companys i can work for, i got 5 prehire letters from ,tmc, werner, swift, transam, usa truck, out of these what company would you say is the best?......oh yea and would it be better to be payed 27% of whatever the load cost to deliver ,and the percentage goes up to 33% after you work for them 6 months....
or would you take the 30cents a mile ? ....

and dragnasty, that test was pretty easy wasnt it? my dad and grandfather were truck drivers also, man we are almost like brothers...lol born to drive big trucks!

hey low95xlt, if there is any way i can load up some trucks and go to cali you bet i will do it.....

Yea, you just gotta read the questions carefully. They word them all crazy to screw you up. I had to read a couple questions 3 or 4 times to finally realise what answer they were wantong... As soon as my dually is sold, Im buying a truck. I found the one I want, I just gotta get the rest of the money up. Im mainly buying it just to fix up, but I would like to have the option of hauling a few loads for my dad.
