i believe i wired them the way the 4 ohm load diagram is set up. i'll check it when i get home. i appreciate the link too man. So a basic rule of thumb is if you have 4 ohm subs, buy a 4 ohm amp? or wire them in 4 ohm?

I found that it depends on the subs your runnin. If your amp is only rated for 4ohm mono max, and yer using 2 subs, then get 2 8ohm subs and run them in parallel making 4 ohms, or run dual voice coil subs, each sub in series which would make 8ohms, then parallel the 2 subs making 4 ohms mono. I've seen amps quit pretty fast if the subs are wired in parallel making 2 ohm and the amp isn't rated for 2 ohms mono.

quick question, how do you wire them in series then in parallel?

i checked my subs out the other night and this was how i had them wired.  some guy at a audio shop around here told me thats the way to wire up DVC. can anyone tell me how this is wired up? take into mind both subs are goin to the amp's left and right channel. i did this on microsoft paint but it was the best illustration i could give ya.

You are running in a 2 ohm load in stereo mode if those are 4ohm DVC subs. Most amps can do this but in most cases, runing a "bridged" setup will get you better results. Run only one set of wires off the amp to atain a "mono bridge".  Look at the diagram below. See what this does. This should make the amp run a little cooler but I still think someting inside you amp got damaged based upon your description above. hope this helps..

i believe its shot too. i just wanted to know how to wire up the next one so that the same thing doesn't happen again.
