There is a ton of good iinfo on the Internet on how to use, shoot, and adjust settings on DSLR cameras. I have a Canon 30D, and a RebelXT, with several lenses, and still collecting. Point and Shoots are OK if you want to take the same pics that everyone else is taking. If you want to get creative, and use the camera tight, you have to go full manual on a DSLR and find the creatively correct shot.

canon rebel xt is awesome. i love it and it's a great price. i got one that was basically brand new with 2 lenses, some accessories, a bag, and shipping for about $400. this was a while back, i'm sure the prices are coming down even more. and this was on ebay.
